"Shapeshifter"

I could put on a face
I could be so many things for you
Try to replace
Who I am with what I think is true

I make mistakes
And know I'm not defined by them
Still it's a race
To run away and not become

Me
Me
I'd be anything but me
Me

They could size you up
Lay you out in different pieces and
Tack you down
To segment and examine them

Simplified
To hide what they don't understand
Break you down
Till the last thing that you want to be is

You
You
Turn you into something new
You

For all our flaws
The only thing I want to be is me
Because
Everyone is flawed
And if you can have an impact
Then maybe I am making one as well
It's not a loss
To be myself, however flawed

Shapeshifter
Are you sifting through the sands
Trying to find your own hands again
You never really know who you are
Because you've drifted so far
Shapeshifter
Like a fading star

"BLM"

Red and blue
A terror down your spine
You don't know how this will end
But you've heard
Of horror stories, black and white
Is peace an enemy or friend

And you shouldn't have to second guess
If you're more or less
Or how to dress
But see in time
We could leave it all behind
Progress isn't always common sense
Not always present tense
But we could leave it all behind

Flashing lights
Like a lighthouse on a hill
It could wreck or save your soul
Open eyes
And follow side to side
Surrender your control

And do they see the fear behind them
Does the terror there remind them

And you shouldn't have to second guess
If you're more or less
Or how to dress
But see in time
We could leave it all behind
Progress isn't always common sense
Not always present tense
But we could leave it all behind

The fear it strikes
A wicked chord
And you never know
Quite how it might ring out
Do you hold your doubt
Or hold your ground
When clarity may barely make a sound

"The Same"

There's a race
To become
What you see
In the world
That you want
You could be
Anything
Have it all

There's a race
To collect
Everything
You can get
Your hands on
Be it status
Be it wealth
Be it fame

But everybody ends the same
And all you leave behind
Is how people said your name
Were you the one
At the top
Of the chain
Or were you pulling it along

There's a race
To compete
Be the best
Turn your cheek
Fix your brow
Cause somehow
Being stubborn gets you there

I don't care
What you think
Where you're from
What you believe
Be the salt
Of the earth
Give others the same worth
You give yourself

And leave behind
A fondness for your name
Were you the one
At the top
Of the chain
Or were you pulling us along
You seem so strong
But are you all alone
Sometimes we forget
That we all want the throne
But I admit
This life wouldn't be the same
Without all of the people who give it shape
Just know, know the difference that you make

"The Offer"

I was in love
I was in love with what I had
I had no need
For any one, only any thing
I was in love
I was alone

I was in deep
Voices, they'd creep
Into my mind
Dividing me, dividing line
I was alone
I wasn't fine

But then you offered me something better
Something better than I'd ever had
Yeah, you offered me something better
And now I can never go back

I was in love
I was in love with what I had
A brand new purpose
No more tears or suffering
I wasn't fine
But that was all right

I was accepted
I was accepted for once in my life
I was different
Broken to pieces, bare
But that was all right
Because you were my light

When you offered me something better
Something better than I'd ever had
Yeah, you offered me something better
And now I can never go back

I was in churches
I was in churches all of my life
I was rejected
Discouraged but I held on tight
Because you were my light
My heart was right

They wore me down, it came like rain
We're family, but not the same
The pieces that don't fit get washed away

There's many types, but that's all right
We sing with people locked outside
In harmony, in dissonance, I cried

My heart was right
But where was the light

I told them I don't see a difference
I'm as lonely as I was before
They said they had nothing to offer
That's not what you bring yourself for

But then I thought back to the altar
When I traded what I had for more
I gave you all I had to offer
You offered me an open door

Into a home
I'd never known
I wasn't alone
Because you offered me hope

"Uninspired"

You've been gifted
With the ability
To never really try
You can pick up
Almost anything
And still feel justified

When your hands aren't bringing comfort
And your words aren't bringing peace
When you say you come to the Most High
But you're bringing Him your least

How long
Will you dip into a well that's dry
How long
Will you churn out words so uninspired
How long
Will you burn without a fire

You've been lifted
From a worn out
Stale excuse for life
Why don't you get up
Get your feet wet
No excuses not to try

You can quote a book all day long
Or you could make it your own song

Anyone can do what they have done
Anyone could sing the songs they've sung
We don't need to hear another one
